Have You Accepted Plan B?

Last week, we focused on the first two foundational steps toward homeownership.

First, understanding your "why." Second, completing a thorough financial assessment by taking an honest look at where your money is going and determining whether your financial habits align with your vision.

This week, I want to challenge you with a different question.

Have you accepted Plan B because you stopped believing you could achieve Plan A?

For many people, homeownership has always been the dream. However, somewhere along the journey that dream became delayed. Then the delay became discouragement. Eventually, discouragement became acceptance.

Without even realizing it, renting stopped being the temporary plan and quietly became the destination.

Let me be clear…There is nothing wrong with renting if it's part of your strategy.

The question is whether renting has become your strategy or your excuse.

Did You Stop Believing?

Sometimes we convince ourselves that the market is too expensive, interest rates are too high, our credit isn't good enough, we don't make enough money. However, maybe those are simply challenges to overcome not reasons to abandon the vision.

The first two exercises from last week's blog reveal a lot...

✓ If your "why" isn't strong enough, you'll struggle to remain committed when obstacles arise.

✓ If your finances don't align with your goals, your dream will continue waiting for decisions that support it.

Neither of those situations means homeownership isn't possible. They simply reveal where the work needs to begin.

Plan A Requires Alignment

Dreams don't become reality simply because we want them. They become reality when our decisions begin agreeing with them.

✅ Plan A Check

Take a moment to honestly assess where you are. Check every statement that is true for you.

☐ I have clearly written down why I want to become a homeowner.

☐ I can describe my future home in detail (location, size, features, and how it will serve my family).

☐ I know my current credit score.

☐ I have completed a financial assessment and know exactly where my money is going each month.

☐ I have identified spending that doesn't align with my homeownership goals.

☐ I have started or consistently contribute to a dedicated home savings fund.

☐ I know approximately how much home I can afford.

☐ I have spoken with a mortgage professional instead of making assumptions about what I qualify for.

☐ I have a realistic timeline for purchasing my home.

☐ My daily financial decisions align with my Plan A.

How many boxes did you check?

If you checked 8–10: You're intentionally aligning your life with your vision. Keep building momentum.

If you checked 5–7: You're making progress, but there are areas that need greater focus.

If you checked 0–4: Don't be discouraged. Today is the perfect day to recommit to your Plan A.

This Week's Challenge

Go back and read what you wrote last week.

✔️ Read your "why."

✔️ Review your financial assessment.

Now ask yourself one honest question:

If I continue living exactly as I am today, will it move me closer to my Plan A or keep me comfortably living in Plan B?

This week, choose one thing that's keeping you from your Plan A and commit to changing it.

Maybe it's:

  • Canceling subscriptions you no longer use.

  • Reducing unnecessary spending.

  • Paying down debt.

  • Increasing your monthly savings.

  • Scheduling a mortgage consultation.

  • Creating a written homeownership plan.

Remember...Small decisions made consistently lead to life-changing results.

Write the Vision. Get the Keys because Plan A is the only way.
